Mejiro University College has been specializing
in women's education through liberal arts as well as practical
skills since its foundation in 1963. Based on the fruits
of education and research and on expertise accumulated during
the over forty years since its inception, Mejiro University
College offers courses which keep pace with our rapidly
changing contemporary society.
Mejiro University College consists of
three departments, the Department of Living Science, which
offers five different courses (Food Science, Social Welfare
Studies, Horticulture, Herbology and Landscape Design, Fashion
Design and Secretarial/ Business Studies), the Department
of Child Studies and the Department of Confectionary Studies.
The Department of Living Science is a
highly practical department that takes a comprehensive scientific
approach to research in the basics ofeliving' - food, clothing
and shelter - by adding a social science perspective to
the field of home economics.
The Department of Child Studies aims to foster individuals
keen to be involved in the field of child education as kindergarten
and early childhood teachers.
The Department of Confectionary Studies, through the combination of fieldwork and lectures, aims to produce students who are skilled in the preparation and production and knowledgeable of the background of sweets from around the world.
The curriculum provide in these three
departments encompasses a variety of practical work, seminars
and fieldwork. It is hoped that through the added motivation
of being able to obtain many qualifications through the
completion of these courses, students will be motivated
to achieve at the highest level possible and to gain many
skills valuable in their everyday life.
