Below is a detailed description of the Graduate
School programs on offer at Mejiro University. Although this is
provided in English, all programs are conducted in Japanese and
therefore require interested students to sit an entrance exam
in Japanese.
The Japanese society is changing in response
to the challenges posed by economic globalization in particular,
bringing with it progress and change at heretofore unknown speeds.
The Japanese lifetime employment system is in the process of collapsing.
Businesses are increasingly adopting competency-based instead
of seniority-based pay and promotion systems. Companies are now
looking to employ motivated and highly skilled staff rather than
generalists that are to be trained by the company, as used to
be the case. To be able to compete on a global scale in the 21st
century it is essential for Japan to develop individuals highly
skilled and experienced in their chosen professions.
The Mejiro University Graduate School aims to
respond to this challenge. The Graduate School consists of four
schools, the Graduate School of International Studies, the Graduate
School of Psychology, the Graduate School of Business Administration
and the Graduate School of Social Welfare Services. All schools
offer Master Programs, and the Graduate School of Psychology further
offers a Doctoral Program.
The Graduate School of International Studies
Program deals with issues of ecoexistencef and ecultural exchangef
in individual countries and regions of the globe. The Graduate
School of Psychology focuses on the issue of emindf from a professional
and practical point of view. The Graduate School of Business Administration,
which was newly established in April 2004, is designed to foster
ebusinessmen and womenf with skills of a standard high enough
to achieve global recognition. The newest addition to the Master's
program, introduced in April 2007, is the Graduate School of Social
Welfare Services. It has been designed to meet the social welfare
needs in an increasing aged population in Japan. It provides in-depth
studies to introduce effective policies and support in order to
conquer the unique challenges each generation is facing.
Each of these four Graduate Schools provides
students with the opportunity to specialize in the area of their
choice, responding to society's need for competent individuals
in each field. The Mejiro University graduate programs aim to
cater to the studentsfacademic interests while, at the same time,
preparing them for employment as well-educated and qualified professionals.
One of the advantages of studying at the Mejiro
University Graduate School is the flexible lesson-delivery. Classes
are held Mondays through Saturdays and offered in the afternoons
as well as evenings to allow those in full-time employment the
same access as those who intend to enroll as full-time students.
